A516 Grade 70 Steel Plate
A516 Grade 70 steel plate is a medium-carbon alloy plate made to meet pressure vessel quality (PVQ) standards. Through the addition of elements such as manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, and silicon, A516 Grade 70 plate is the ideal choice for moderate to lower temperature pressure applications. A516 Grade 70 PVQ plate maintains good notch toughness and is easily weldable, perfect for pressure vessels, boilers, and machinery in the petrochemical industry. The chemical make-up and forming processes make this ideal for pressure vessels compared to other carbon steel plates.

Our A516 Grade 70 plates are made with high-quality materials through our hot rolling process, ensuring the best product from our carbon steel hot rolled steel plate for your industrial needs.A516 Grade 70 Steel Plate Characteristics
The ASTM A516 Grade 70 steel plate maintains several characteristics through the medium carbon and other alloy compositions. The alloying elements provide increased strength and versatility in highly demanding applications at lower temperatures, giving good resistance. The blue and gray colors with a slightly grainy texture make this excellent for welding and good for machining or forming. The characteristics of A516 Grade 70 steel plate include:- Welding: Excellent
- Machining/Grinding: Good
- Bending/Forming: Good
- Wear Resistance: Good
- Corrosion Resistance: Good
A516 Grade 70 PVQ Plate Properties
A516 Grade 70 PVQ plate contains several mechanical properties through its unique strength and toughness from the composition and hot rolling processes. The high reliability in pressure vessel construction offers good tensile and yield strength while providing good elongation. A516 Grade 70 steel plate maintains good notch toughness while maintaining good formability and machinability. As a general rule, plates under 1-1/2” thickness are usually supplied in the as-rolled condition, while plates over 1-1/2” will typically be normalized. This is done to protect the grain structure and toughness of thicker plates. The mechanical properties of A516 Grade 70 PVQ steel plate include:- Tensile Strength: 70-90 psi or 485-620 MPa
- Yield Point: 38 psi or 260 MPa
- Elongation: 21% in 2”
- Elasticity: 29 psi
- Shearing Strength: 11.6 psi
- Brinell Hardness: 163
